Windshield Replacement History
In the beginning of windshield development templates and patterns were used to hand-cut windshields from safety glass. Windshields are now manufactured all over the world with extremely sophisticated systems and machinery. Today it would be absurd to fathom of keeping track of hundreds of windshield replacement patterns.
Windshield Replacement Specifications
NAGS or the National Auto Glass Specifications, Inc. created a solutions for this by developing a system to provide a common language for the windshield replacement industry. A catalog of patterns was created by NAGS which has now become the industry’s product identification standard for all makes, models, styles and years of windshields since 1972.
Windshield Replacement Pattern Catalog
A calculator was also developed to accompany the Windshield Replacement pattern catalog by NAGS to assist in determining the square footage of auto glass and it’s cost. NAGS also went on to assign a designations, better known as a NAGS number, for the design of each piece of auto glass. Generally the designation consists of a two-letter prefix and a numeric code. Every windshield is now identified by using this system in today’s world.
